The view includes not only the outline
of Radda but also the valley of the Pesanella
creek with itshouses , castles and farms
all dominated by Monte San Michele
the highest hill of Chianti.
Roads and paths lead to the discovery of
churches , abbeys, old Roman "pievi"
dating back to before the year 1000 , and
farms producing the famous Chianti
Classico wines.
Fairs, concerts, village festivals, various
performances take place in Radda and in
the neighbouring villages: Castellina, Gaiole,
Greve Vertine and Volpaia are extraordinary
medieval villages, possible
object for pleasant walks.
Nearby are thermal baths , a few of which
date from Roman times, restored for modern
use, without spoiling the ancient stones
and woodland.
RADDA IN CHIANTI
Radda once the chief town of the Chianti
Lega , is now the seat of the Consorzio
Gallo Nero . Inside the ancient
town
walls the Palazzo del Comune is
decorated with frescoes and coats of arms
of the many illustrious Podestà ; the buildings
and the narrow streets still show the lines
of the medieval fortified village.
Hotels , antique shops,
handycraft and delicatessen shops offer
a warm welcome and a wide variety of goods.
At the bottom of the hill there is a tennis
court. Nearby there are horses
and ponies for hire.

Cities famous for their art and history are
at less then one hour's distance: Arezzo 50km,
Florence 40 km, Siena 30 km, as well as Colle
Val d'Elsa, Montalcino Montepulciano, Pienza,
Sangimignano, San Giovanni Valdarno; a little
further away are Pisa and Volterra.
