A short cipress avenue leads to an open space near the main house
the south front of which is occasionally
occupied by the owner , a florentine lady
who lives since 30 years in Milan with her
neapolitan husband.
The name of the house Sassaiola, refers to the many rocks characterising Chianti
The building is a restored peasant
house covered with Virginia creepers
with a terrace - the former threshing ground
- enclosed by a low wall with a wal-nut
tree, an almond tree and clusters of cypresses
and limes.
The garden
The house is surrounded by a typical Chainti
garden, a large lawn with ancient oaks on
tne north side, a wood sloping towards the
main road, an
olive grove
and a
vineyard
The surrounding country , with its pleasant natural odours and variagated colours - green trees , silver olives, reddish vines, golden broom, mauve tufts of heather, is enlivened by its hidden fauna - dormice, hedgehogs and singing birds.
The swimming pool
Half hidden , on the edge of the wood, there is a Welcoming swimming-pool exclusively for guests, with a diving board, a shower, solarium and a small lawn.
